To watch over the sea is to watch over our country.
From the sea, things never look quite the way they do from land. It gives a different sense of a country's exposure, the worth of its coastline, and the responsibility borne by those who watch over it, protect it and bring aid on it, day after day, night after night.
For Djibouti, this responsibility carries particular weight. Positioned at the crossroads of major international shipping routes and open onto the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, our country makes the sea a strategic space, but also a space of life, exchange and sovereignty.
That responsibility is carried by every sailor of the Djiboutian Coast Guard, with steadiness, discipline and discretion.
Our missions never stop: rescue and assistance at sea, maritime safety, surveillance and protection of our waters and their resources, action against illicit activity, control of maritime spaces, and support to the authorities of the State. Each of these missions calls on trained, disciplined and determined women and men, ready to act in the most demanding conditions.
They are the first I think of when I consider the path our institution has travelled. Behind every operation, every patrol and every intervention lies a collective commitment in the service of the Nation.
This site exists to bring the Djiboutian Coast Guard closer to those it serves: seafarers, maritime industry professionals, coastal families, our institutional partners, and the young people considering joining our ranks.
It must also be a space of information, closeness and trust, in keeping with our commitment on the ground.
Our course is clear: to serve, to protect, to preserve.
I invite everyone to discover our institution, our missions, our values, and the women and men who embody them, with the same rigour and sense of duty that drive our crews at sea.
The sea is our space of action.
Protecting the Nation is our mission.
Service is our commitment.
Colonel Wais Omar Bogoreh — Commander of the Djiboutian Coast Guard
