The Bab-el-Mandeb Strait carries a major share of world maritime traffic. Securing this passage cannot fall to a single State: the Djiboutian Coast Guard operates within a dense network of regional, UN and bilateral cooperation.
Coordination with navies and coast guards bordering the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea to counter piracy and trafficking.
Training and equipment programmes conducted with UN agencies present in Djibouti, notably in sea rescue.
Operational exchanges and visits by foreign delegations to Doraleh camp, including the Italian Carabinieri in April 2026.
Participation in the African Maritime Forces Summit, held in July 2026 in Rabat with more than forty African countries.
A strategic crossroads
Djibouti holds a singular position at the junction of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. This gives the Coast Guard a role beyond the strictly national: securing its waters contributes directly to the security of a trade route of global importance.
