MARITIME SOVEREIGNTY
From fast interceptors to coastal stations, every sector of the Djiboutian coastline is covered by a network of patrols and observation posts.
STRATEGIC POSITION
At the junction of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, the Djiboutian coastline borders one of the world's busiest shipping routes. A considerable share of trade between Asia and Europe transits the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.
This position gives the Republic particular responsibilities: securing merchant traffic, assisting vessels in difficulty, and preserving an exceptionally rich marine ecosystem.
Djibouti's exclusive economic zone extends up to 200 nautical miles from the baselines, subject to delimitations agreed with neighbouring States.
